SUMMER CAMP!

Summer Production Camps 2011!

Watch for what’s in store for NEXT summer...

The following camps were offered in Summer 2010...

“Pirates, Mermaids, a Sea Monster & High Seas Adventure!”

Join Captain Fran and the crew of the “Pleasant Sea” for some swashbuckling fun as their “ship of pleasant pirate personalities” sets sail from a rough and rowdy town to find the Captain a very special surprise birthday present!  Along the way meet the merfolks and sea monster, played by younger campers, who try to come between the crew and their treasure, and discover that the real scurvy dogs may just be your own crewmates!  Awash with nautical humor, swordfights, and rousing musical numbers, come aboard for a one-week camp filled with fun crafts and action-packed adventures in theater and on the high seas.

July 19-23

“A Wonderful World of Workshops!”

This camp has been a hit for the last 2 summers, and  we’re making it a yearly offering!  The only Kaleidoscope camp not ending with a traditional performance, his “supplement” camp brings in the experts and takes the time to look at various theater disciplines in a more in-depth workshop setting.

Although our production camps do contain workshops, “A Wonderful World of Workshops” takes the emphasis off performing so more time can be spent exploring subjects such as costume design, puppets, building a set, playwriting, mask making, vocal training, dance and choreography, getting in depth into a character through monolog work, and many other areas.  Students make their workshop choices for the week on the first day of camp.

Participants chose to share and teach what they learned in each of their workshops with friends and family at a casual “informance.” This camp can be taken alone or tacked onto one or both of the other camps.

July 26-August 6

“Fairy Tales Gone Wild- The Characters, The Issues, The Magic!”

What is it about fairy tales that makes them crop up in every culture around the world?   What do their characters and the situations they find themselves in say to us, that we tell them over and over to every generation?  What has kept us believing in magic, Prince Charmings and happily ever afters?

Find out the answers to these questions, get into the heads of some pretty outrageous personalities, and be ready to laugh yourself silly in workshops and rehearsals in this two week camp focusing on a production loosely based on a number of classic fairy tales and characters. “W.A.N.D.S. ANONYMOUS,” an original musical written by artistic director, Stacy Hostetter, mixes some of your fairy tale favorites together in a fun, twisted story of fairy godmothers, evil stepmothers, a two-headed creature, wolves, pigs, dwarves, frogs, princesses, magic, and a fabulous hairdresser all set in a star-struck disco world and beauty shop.  Fairy godmothers, Rita, Gillian, Marla and Cherry believe there is still a place for magic in the world and work desperately to undo the evil plans of Witch Hazel that are keeping Rapunzel from marrying her Prince Charming.  They believe that Geno, the genius of the hairdressing world, can help them, so they travel to the W.A.N.D.S. (Wishes Answered National Do-Gooders Society) ANONYMOUS convention to ask for his assistance.  Meanwhile, Geno has his own problems trying to keep his kissing assistant, Odie, out of trouble, while seeing to the needs of seven spoiled princesses.

This camp proved to be ridiculously fun, yet full of magic and “charm.”  In addition to a final performance at the end of camp, these two week campers were featured as guest performers at the Sweet Pea Festival.
